Appointments made for leadership jobs in Boston

City officials have made important appointments to leadership jobs in Boston.

The city has appointed William Onuoha as Executive Director of the Mayor’s Office of Fair Housing & Equity, and the elevation of Christopher Cook to Chief of Environment, Energy and Open Space for the City of Boston, a position he will hold in addition to his current role as Commissioner of the Boston Parks Department.

As Director of the Mayor’s Office of Fair Housing & Equity, Onuoha will be responsible for the leadership and management of the office, which includes the Boston Fair Housing Commission and the Boston Human Rights Commission. The Office of Fair Housing & Equity is charged with ensuring fair and equitable access to housing opportunities throughout Boston.

As part of Onuoha’s role, he will work to ensure the Office effectively engages and serves residents, especially the most vulnerable, and advocates for fair housing and equity. Through the Office, Onuoha will work to address discrimination and ensure fair access to housing, public services, accommodations, and participation in housing related activities for all people of Boston.

As Chief of Environment, Energy and Open Space for the City of Boston, Cook will be responsible for leading the Cabinet in achieving its mission of enhancing the quality of life in Boston by protecting air, water, climate, and land resources, and preserving and improving the integrity of Boston’s architectural and historic resources. He will assume the role previously held by Austin Blackmon. Blackmon is returning to the private sector in the San Francisco Bay Area to join a clean energy technology firm and lead its product development and growth efforts.
