Boston Jobs with Top Companies

Many people throughout the country are searching for work as unemployment rates continue to soar. However, those looking for a Boston job may take comfort in knowing the city has many top companies that are often hiring.
The Boston area is one of the few that has added jobs during recent months and been able to keep a steady unemployment rate. During March, the Boston-Cambridge-Quincy area had an unemployment rate of 7.4 percent, the same as during February.
The area had a total non-farm employment of 2,413,100 workers during March, according to the United States Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is up from 2,409,500 workers during February, but a 2.5 percent decrease from last year.
Aside from having a pretty stable economy and several reputable local companies offering work, Boston also is home to six Fortune 500 companies. These companies include: Liberty Mutual Insurance Group, State Street Corp., NSTAR, Cabot, Sovereign Bancorp and Iron Mountain.
Following is a little bit about what each company has to offer:
Liberty Mutual Insurance – provides broad, useful and competitively-priced insurance products and services that meet customers’ needs. The fith-largest P&C insurance company in the country, the company also has earned an A.M. Best Co. A, or excellent, rating.
State Street Corp. – is the world’s leading provider of financial services to institutional investors. The company’s services span the entire investment spectrum, including research, investment management, trading services and investment servicing. State Street has $11.3 trillion in assets under custody and $1.4 trillion under management.
NSTAR – is the largest Massachusetts-based, investor-owned electric and gas utility. The company transmits and delivers electricity and gas to 1.1 million electric customers in 81 communities and 300,000 gas customers in 51 communities. NSTAR employs more than 3,200 workers. The company has revenues of about $3.3 billion and assets totaling about $8.3 billion.
Cabot – manufactures and modifies fine particles, creating products that help customers achieve better results. This global company has 80 percent of its business located outside of the United States and focuses on safety, performance, innovation and customers.
Sovereign Bancorp – offers a broad range of financial services, including retail, business and corporate banking; cash management; capital markets; wealth management and insurance. The company joined Santander Group earlier this year, which is one of the five largest banks in the world by profit.
Iron Mountain – helps organizations throughout the world reduce costs and risks associated with information protection and storage. The company offers records management, data protection and information destruction solutions. The company is a trusted partner to more than 120,000 corporate clients throughout North America, Europe, Latin America and the Pacific Rim.
