Company expands, secures hire for legal jobs in Boston

Posted on May 14, 2011

McCarter & English announced a key expansion this week when it hired for legal jobs in Boston.

The firm said that Benjamin M. Hron has joined the firm as a special counsel in the Corporate, Securities and Financial Institutions Practice. Mr. Hron, co-founder of a boutique law firm serving emerging technology companies, focuses his practice on start ups and emerging businesses.

He joins the firm’s Boston office and will also work out of McCarter’s office in Kendall Square, Cambridge, at the Cambridge Innovation Center.

Mr. Hron is a business law attorney with extensive experience advising private companies, primarily in the life sciences and information technology industries, on general corporate matters, angel and venture capital financing, mergers and acquisitions, securities law compliance, strategic collaborations and technology licensing. He also represents investors in connection with the financing of private companies.

“Ben’s success working in the trenches with emerging technology companies is a great fit for our tech company group,” said Rick Lucash, also a founder of a boutique firm who joined McCarter last year. “Entrepreneurial clients have long been a focus for McCarter, and Ben’s experience and excellent reputation in this area will be a strong asset for the firm and our clients.”

Burton Winnick, the managing partner of McCarter’s Boston office, added, “Ben is a great addition to the Boston office and continues our successful expansion efforts aimed at providing clients with exceptional counsel across a broad range of practice areas.”

Mr. Hron comes to McCarter from VC Ready Law Group, the Boston law firm he co-founded, where he has helped numerous entrepreneurs launch and grow their businesses. Mr. Hron’s experience running his own company helps him better understand and address the issues facing his clients. He often gets involved when a business is still in its infancy and helps guide the founders through the formative early stages of their company’s development.

“McCarter presents a great opportunity for both me and the companies with whom I work,” Mr. Hron said. “The expertise of the lawyers at McCarter will allow me to better serve my clients at all stages of development in a wider variety of areas of law. McCarter’s strong reputation in the technology sector, as well as its broad regional reach, will give me an excellent platform on which to expand my practice.”

Mr. Hron worked at two other prominent Boston law firms and held various Boston jobs before launching VC Ready. He has a Juris Doctor from Harvard and a Bachelor of Arts (magna cum laude) in Biology and Political Science from Carleton College.
