Satcon to hire for solar manufacturing jobs in Boston

Posted on February 27, 2011

Satcon Technology, the manufacturer of power inverters for utility-scale solar projects, announced this week that it is expanding its Massachusetts facility and hiring for solar manufacturing jobs in Boston.

The company said it will hire 25 workers over the next few months.

According to the Boston Business Journal, the Boston-based company decided to augment its manufacturing in Boston after a lengthy review of potential sites in California and Ontario. Satcon will grow its current production facility in South Boston to increase output of its new 1-megawatt integrated solar systems, said, Dan Gladkowski, the company’s vice president for administration.

GetSolar.com reports that Satcon’s systems contain both inverters and transformers and help reduce costs associated with connecting large-scale solar projects to the electric grid. The company plans to add roughly 16,000 square-feet of space to its current 30,000-square-foot facility in the Drydock Center building, with an expected completion date set for May.
